Class of 2024: Hopeful Olivian found artistic expression in many forms

As the VCU Class of 2024 prepares to graduate this May, we are highlighting some of our outstanding graduates. Michelle Fan, a biology major in the College of Humanities and Sciences, has excelled both inside and outside of the classroom. She has been involved in a variety of activities on campus, including the VCU Symphony Orchestra, the Biology Club, and the Pre-Health Professions Society. She has also volunteered at the VCU Medical Center and mentored students in the VCU Biology Scholars Program.

“VCU has provided me with so many opportunities to grow as a student, a musician, and a person,” said Fan. “I am so grateful for the professors and staff who have supported me on my journey.”

Fan is a talented musician who has played the violin since she was four years old. She has performed with the VCU Symphony Orchestra for the past four years and has also played in the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra. She plans to pursue a career in medicine after graduation and hopes to continue playing music as a hobby.

“Music has always been a passion of mine,” said Fan. “It’s a way for me to express myself and connect with others.”

In addition to her musical talents, Fan is also a gifted artist. She has taken several art classes at VCU and enjoys painting, drawing, and sculpting. Her artwork has been featured in several student exhibitions on campus.

“Art is another way for me to explore my creativity and express myself,” she said.

Fan is a well-rounded individual who has made the most of her time at VCU. She has excelled in her studies, pursued her passions, and given back to her community. She is a shining example of the talented and diverse students who make up the VCU Class of 2024.
