Jaywalking may be illegal in New York City, but it appears that Emily Ratajkowski has her own stylistic way of stopping traffic. Her outfit that’s as effective as a stop sign? Miaou’s street-sign-swathed Karina dress, halter-necked, bare-backed, and stamped with “Signal Ahead” prints.
It’s not the first time EmRata has worn the figure-hugging French label, which teamed up with model and British Vogue cover star Paloma Elsesser last spring on a colorful capsule collection. Last August, also out and about in the Big Apple, Ratajkowski danced with a friend for a TikTok video in a gauzy Miaou minidress.
Ratajkowski’s best method for stealing attention is the naked dress—a see-through style she’s sported countless times on the red carpet (note the Feben chainmail gown she wore to the recent 2023 Oscars afterparty). But she’s also stolen column inches with another typographic approach that’s literally black, white, and read all over. Cue the vintage John Galliano newspaper-print dress she wore to a New York Fashion Week event in September 2022, paired with a Fendi Baguette and Proenza Schouler zebra-print boots.
Of course, the original New Yorker to sport something with a Fleet Street slogan was Sarah Jessica Parker, courtesy of the iconic Galliano-designed fall-winter 2000 Christian Dior newspaper slip dress that Carrie Bradshaw wore in Sex & The City 2.
Street signs or newspaper print, what typographic trick will Emily Ratajkowski turn out next? Right now in terms of style, she’s firmly in the driving seat.
