Halle Bailey is about to be the star of Disney’s live-action reboot of The Little Mermaid, but she looked like Cinderella at the 2023 Oscars. Dressed in an aqua blue Dolce & Gabbana sheer tulle gown, the 22-year-old made good use of the strapless neckline with a diamond choker and matching studs courtesy of De Beers.
In recent months Bailey has been consistently leveling up her red-carpet style ahead of Little Mermaid‘s release this May. And though she plays a Disney princess, the 22-year-old is not afraid to throw in a dash of sex appeal. Take, for example, the spicy red cutout gown she wore just a few days ago to Vanity Fair‘s “Young Hollywood” party by the evening wear label Mônot.
And last month, at Milan Fashion Week, the young actor and singer wore a bustier with a pencil skirt featuring a lace overlay.
Disney’s decision to cast Bailey as the beloved mermaid Ariel was historic, making her the first woman of color to play a previously white Disney princess. “After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance—plus a glorious singing voice—all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” director Rob Marshall gushed in a statement about Bailey’s casting.
