The Devil Wears Prada still has a choke hold on all of us, 16 years after its release. Case in point: Anne Hathaway is living out her Andy Sachs fantasies sitting beside none other than Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour during New York Fashion Week. That’s not all: Hathaway was wearing an outfit that’s eerily similar to her character’s final look in the movie. If you couldn’t tell by all the low-rise jeans and shoulder bags, it’s 2006 again—and this moment is simply another confirmation.
During the Michael Kors spring 2023 show on September 14, Hathaway and Wintour—who’s widely believed to be the inspiration behind the fictional Miranda Priestly—were seated next to each other in the front row next to Serena Williams and New York City mayor, Eric Adams. Could Williams and Adams be stand-ins for the film’s favorite supporting characters, Emily (Miranda’s fashion-obsessed first assistant) and Nigel (the editor in chief’s right-hand man)?
Just like her onscreen counterpart, Anne Hathaway wore a black turtleneck under a brown collared jacket to the Michael Kors show. Unlike Sachs, the WeCrashed actor’s style is high fashion and flawless—her character’s old leather jacket was swapped out for a chocolate crocodile trench coat for the IRL fashion show. Hathaway’s tousled bangs and half-up hair style was another not-so-subtle nod to Andy Sachs (a character she almost missed out on playing).
Although Hathaway chose this look to go with, it’s not her favorite from the movie—that award goes to the Chanel ensemble Andy wore to meet a fictional designer in the film. “I love what I wore to the James Hoult party, that velvet Chanel coat that went to the knees, and then the miniskirt and the stockings and the slouched boots,” she told Interview magazine.
Either way, Miss Anne knew what she was doing with this look, and, honestly, the bravery is unmatched. A side-by-side of the two moments captured by fashion industry watchdog Diet Prada just highlights the meta of it all.

This isn’t the first time the movie crossed over into the real-life fashion lore. During an interview ahead of Meryl Streeps’s December 2017 cover, the Vogue editor asked Streep who’s been the most challenging character to play—to which Streep cheekily alluded to her portrayal of Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada.
