Queen Elizabeth Celebrated Her 96th Birthday by Wearing Hot Pink Lipstick

Queen Elizabeth turned 96 years old on April 21, and she celebrated the only logical way: by wearing hot pink lipstick.

The royal family and much of the Commonwealth have been celebrating the queen in various ways over the past few months, with many events revolving around the queen’s Platinum Jubilee, which honors her 70th year as Britain’s monarch. But I’d say 96 years on earth is a bigger achievement.

Queen Elizabeth II chose to stay at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, England, which is where her late husband, Prince Phillip, spent many of his final years. According to , the Sandringham Estate is where the royal family would spend Christmas and a place where the monarch felt less pressure from, you know, reigning over England. A former staff member told the publication, “She doesn’t have to be monarch there. She can be Elizabeth rather than the queen.”

In an image taken by paparazzi, Queen Elizabeth can be seen in the passenger seat of her car a pair of lightly tinted sunglasses, a silk scarf and lipstick in bright fuchsia shade. (You might even call it Barbie pink.)

The Royal Family on Twitter marked her birthday with an image of the monarch when she was just two years old, writing, “Today as The Queen turns 96, we’re sharing this photograph of the young Princess Elizabeth aged 2. Then, in 1928, it was never expected she would be Queen, and this year Her Majesty is celebrating her #PlatinumJubilee—a first in British history.”

Before her birthday Queen Elizabeth received a special visit from her grandson Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle. The pair, who have distanced themselves from the royal family in the past two years, visited for tea, according to , at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Sussex later shared on the Today show, “I’m just making sure she’s protected and got the right people around her.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, honored the queen in a series of images they shared on their official shared Instagram account. One image, which had been previously shared, was a group photo of the Queen and Prince Phillip amongst most of their grandchildren from 2018.
